Senior Pastor

Dr. Cashion was born and raised in Slater, SC. At the age of 12, he accepted Christ as Lord and Savior during a revival meeting at Slater Baptist Church. At the age of 17, Dr. Cashion answered God’s call on his life to preach the gospel. Obedience to the call led first to service as a youth evangelist during his college years at Charleston Southern University where he played baseball and was very involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Later, Dr. Cashion served as a Minister to Students and then answered God’s call to pastor while a student in seminary. During his first four years as a pastor, he served as a bi-vocational pastor while also teaching at the high school level and coaching basketball and baseball.  Dr. Cashion received the Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and the Doctor of Ministry in Missiology from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary.  After 13 years as pastor of local churches, Dr. Cashion and his wife, Kathy, were appointed as missionaries to Venezuela by the International Mission Board. While overseas, Dr. Cashion was a church planter/sports evangelist. He and Mrs. Cashion were privileged to see many churches started during their time in Venezuela. After serving almost 12 years on the foreign field, the Cashions returned to the USA. For the next eight years, Dr. Cashion served on the staff of the International Mission Board in Richmond, VA where he served for two years as the World Hunger Consultant and then for six years as Director of the Volunteers in Missions Department. Dr. Cashion became senior pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church in September, 2004. Dr. and Mrs. Cashion are the proud parents of three daughters – Mrs. Jeff (Amy) Hickman, Mrs. Chad (Missy) Bryant and Miss Katie Cashion. They also have been blessed with six beautiful granddaughters.  Dr. Cashion’s vision for Bethlehem Baptist Church is that “we never allow our world to be smaller than the one Jesus died to save.” His desire is that we grow more and more in the likeness of our Lord Jesus Christ and that we eagerly share His story with the entire world!
